Welcome to POWER!
Thank you for checking out POWER (Project on Women Engineers' Retention)! We’re surveying women from over 30 colleges and universities who earned undergraduate degrees in engineering. While many women stay in engineering and have long successful careers, many women leave engineering. In fact, while only about 1 in 10 men leave the engineering field, about 1 in 4 women leave by the time they are in their 30s. Because of this, women are still a minority of engineers.
There are lots of ideas about why this might be so - but no one has systematically studied women’s retention in engineering. That’s the reason for this longitudinal study. If we are better able to understand the factors that help women stay in engineering, or leave, we’ll be better able to support their careers.
But we need your help! This survey will ask you about your workplace, your thoughts about your own career, your efforts to balance work and non-work activities and several other topics. There are quite a few questions because there may be lots of different reasons women stay or leave engineering. The survey will take you anywhere between 5 minutes to 30 minutes depending on whether you are a current or former engineer and the length of time since your last engineering position. You can complete the survey all at once or come back later to finish.
Thank you for your help!
